Sigma Beta Club
The Sigma Beta Club was established in 1950 by the national voting body of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The mission was to establish a mentoring program for disadvantaged youth. It has evolved into an internationally recognized youth auxiliary group that continues to be orchestrated by members of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
The Sigma Beta Clubs’ four major principles of focus are on Culture, Athletics, Social and Educational needs. The Sigma Beta Club offers a unique opportunity to develop values, leadership skills and social/cultural awareness in our youth during their developmental years. Sigma Beta Club programs are geared to meet the needs of its members, but at the same time provide them with a well-rounded outlook that is needed to cope with today’s society. Phi Beta Sigma is confident that investing in our youth today will produce the effective leaders of tomorrow.
The local Sigma Beta Club of Baltimore is a program that is managed by the Zeta Sigma Foundation, Inc. and the Zeta Sigma Chapter, Inc., which is a local chapter of the Fraternity, serving Baltimore City. The primary objective of the Sigma Beta Clubs is to use a holistic approach to empowering, enriching, and enhancing the lives of young boys through mentoring relationships. To ensure success, we focus on six core areas:
- Academic Achievement
- Social & Professional Etiquette Building
- Community Service
- Economic Empowerment
- Leadership Development
In order to stress the importance of higher education for young men in the community, The Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in conjunction with the Zeta Sigma Foundation, Inc. awards three (3) one-time scholarships to young men that exhibit academic achievement, leadership qualities and community involvement. Each year the candidates submit an application which includes a summary of achievements and an essay based on a topic that effects the community.
